Sivaji's excellent music reviews, Shankar received for Anniyan with Harris Jayaraj,AVM Productions and Rajinikanth demanded that India's top music director should be involved in the project, so A. R. Rahman was signed up as music director for Sivaji. Early, on speculations were high that the songs would be remarkable as A. R. Rahman was paid two Indian Crores for the project, making him the highest paid Indian music director.
